Een van de verschillende geleedpotigen van de klasse Arachnida, zoals spinnen, schorpioenen, mijten en teken, gekenmerkt door vier paren gesegmenteerde benen en een lichaam dat is verdeeld in twee regio's, de cephalothorax en de buik. Ook wel arachnoïde genoemd.
