scolopax: znaczenie i definicje

A Linnean genus of Scolopacidæ, formerly including most of the scolopacine and some other birds, but now restricted to the genus of which the European woodcock, S. rusticula, is the type: in this sense synonymous only with Rusticola. The birds most frequently called snipe belong to the genera Gallinago and Macrorhamphus. See snipe.
