A genus of sharks.

A genus of living and fossil proboscidian mammals, of which the African elephant, Elephas or Loxodon africanus, is the type, distinguished from the Asiatic elephant, Elephas or Euelephas indicus, by the shallow and open intervals between the ridges of the teeth, the cement forming merely a thin coat.
