elephas: المعنى والتعريفات

The typical genus of elephants, formerly embracing both the living species, or genera, now sometimes restricted to the type represented by the Asiatic elephant, Elephas indicus. In this restricted sense it is the same as Elasmodon and Euelephas. See cuts under elephant.
