What is Gaine?
- In sculpture, the lower part of a figure of which the head, with sometimes the bust, is alone carved to represent nature, the remaining portion presenting, as it were, the appearance of a sheath closely enveloping the body, and consequently broader at the shoulders than at the feet.
In der Skulptur das Unterteil einer Figur, die von denen der Kopf, mit manchmal der Büste, allein ist zur Darstellung von Natur, der restliche Teil präsentiert, wie es war, das Aussehen von einem Mantel eng umhüllt den Körper und folglich an den Schultern breiter geschnitzt als an den Füßen.
