- A genus of fishes, related to the herrings, but with a produced snout, and a broad silvery band which has been compared to the white stole or band worn by priests, typical of the family Stolephoridæ (or Engraulididæ).
Gènere de peixos, relacionat amb les arengades, però amb un musell produït, i una àmplia banda platejada que s'ha comparat amb la roba blanca o banda usada pels sacerdots, típica de la família Stolephoridæ (o Engraulididæ).
